Completion Date

Our purchasers are exchanging on Tuesday and there wanting to complete on Friday, which we ''will'' do, but we can't get in to our renting property untill 6th June so have asked if they will complete on 6th instead (means only having to rent the van once, move the awkward sofas and bed and cot once etc) but they said they can only complete on 30th - with the market how it is would you just ''go with it'' to complete the sale or insist we are unable to complete untill 6th June. Were only annoyed because we sold to this lady at well below the asking price and 2k less than we paid for the property because we were fed up and wanted out before the market bottomed out but we accepted her offer on the provision she complete a QUICK sale and its been just over 3 months already!

People bluff all the time. If you turn around on Tuesday and say you can't complete, then it's simply a battle of nerves. You know that you will complete on Friday if you have to and she won't pull out just because you asked for 6th June.

How much would it cost you in cold hard cash to move somewhere else in the meantime? If the worst came to the worst you could offer that difference in the from of a discount - the reduced stress will be worth it but I still think you can hold out for the date you need. Exchange is the most important thing.

Rather than making demands, you can ask your solicitor to ask their solicitor for the next convenient date for your buyer on or around the 6th. It makes it less confrontational. :)

There is nothing wrog with asking (albeit in slightly manipulative ways) if your buyer is genuinely committed, this will go through regardless of date.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Thanks DG great advice as ever.

I did speak to the sols yest and the rung me back and left me a message (had my phone on silent by mistake) when I rung back just after 4pm they must of shut as couldnt get an answer. The answerphone message didnt sound promising, she didnt say anything except to ring back as heard from her sols re the completion date but just the tone of her voice sounded un promising!!

Just found out as well that OHs work wont give him time off on thurs or fri, dad is working thurs & fri and everyone else I know is also, so I have no one to actually help me move on that date so it might really be a case of not being able to move on that date not a preference!

Do you need help? Is it a self-drive van you're hiring and moving everything yourself?

If you've got a removals van booked then just stand and point to things. Direct operations. Single people move all the time... that's what I do: point.

We have not got a removal company we are renting a van and moving ourselves. We dont have much to move as most of the boxes of ''stuff'' were packed up and taken to my parents to store, its just litterally the sofa and bed I would have trouble moving - but its sorted now, were going to move out on the Wed either way as I have help then and stay at my folks place untill the following weekend and then move in to the rented accom when its ready!

    cheers
