STP - Is is a moneysaving idea?
Just wondering what your thoughts might be on products like those sold under the STP brand (http://www.stp.com).
Just recently bought a second-hand car which happens to be fuel injected. Would it be worth throwing a can of the fuel injector cleanrer into the tank next time I fill up?
Thanks for any help received.

STP products have been around for years and I used to use them on my old MKII Escort etc (in my younger days) without any ill side effects. However, there is a school of thought that says "if it's not broke don't try to fix it".
Nevertheless, i'd still pour it in.

personally i wouldnt - STP and other oil treatments are snake oil in my view. with fuel and oil (and indeed tyres) i firmly believe that you get what you pay for. if you buy crap oil it will breakdown more rapidly than a more expensive brand name oil, therefore not doing what it should. If you buy cheap petrol it wont have the additives in it that help keep the build up of crap out of the engine internals. If you suddenly chuck something that removes all to tut out of the engine where's it going to go? it can only be thrown into the cylinders and then blown out with the exhaust, clagging stuff up as it goes.
Personally I'd treat the 'new to me' car with an oil change using a decent brand oil, and a new filter, then fill it with 98 RON (non-supermarket) and give it an 'italian tune up' for a week, should be a no risk clean up strategy.if it's more than 10 stone, and that hairy, it's probably not a dog...it may be a wookie.0
