Need help - school dressing up day

Once again the school has the bright idea of getting the kids to dress up. Fortunately this time its only Yr 5 so I've only got to come up with one outfit. This time she has to dress up like someone from Ancient Greek times. She's not keen on my white tablecloth idea:rotfl: - anyone got a better idea (that costs very little if anything at all:D )?

Thanks for that link. I did mention the word "she" in my original post it is my daughter - not great because the female costumes are far more complicated. Oh well I've got a week to come up with something.Lightbulb moment: 14 May 2008Debt free date: April 2014DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 188Nightowl Member No 160

You may be able to get gladiator sandal type things for her on the high street, even the cheaper shops like instore, ethel austin and of course primark usuallydo very good copies of this type of thing

There are a couple of outfits on the site below which you could either buy for £8.95 + £2.10 p&p or use the pictures for inspiration! I have no affiliation to that site but, as a teacher, I've used it to help me make my own costumes in the past! Remember, your child's teachers probably have to make their own costumes too!
I think a white tablecloth would be ideal and can be made a lot more glamorous with the addition of gold buttons on the shoulders, a piece of gold braid (or gold belt) around the waist and a coloured sash over the shoulder. You could also buy a gold-coloured plastic hairband at Asda for 75p and angle it like a circlet... very effective (my class thought mine was wonderful)! They also do very cheap sets of gold bracelets.
If your dd is dead set against the tablecloth, have you got a white skirt she could wear? One of those elasticated waist crinkle cotton ones would be ideal with a white t-shirt over, belted together to stop the skirt falling down! Good luck.

DD1 recently had a Greek day at her school; I made her a toga out of a white pillowcase; I cut the pillowcase into the shape of a one-shouldered dress, and hemmed it, and she wore it with a sash fabric belt, and gladiator-style sandals.0

Turns out DD1 had an information sheet with ideas and I have a white tablecloth that is perfect. I might not even have to do any cutting!:TLightbulb moment: 14 May 2008Debt free date: April 2014DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 188Nightowl Member No 160
