London Offers

This was on news this morning...special deals linked to london transport to encourage tourists back...

Official Note

This is a great loophole. Just buy the cheapest bus/train ticket, show it when you buy your show tickets or attraction admission and you'll save up to £30.

  • Why restrict the London Eye 2-4-1 to Oyster Card holders? I'm willing to bet large sums of money that not many tourists will have one.
  • Going to London for 2 days at half term - 4 kids aged 16,7,5 and 5. What's the best travel card to buy - do we need photos etc?? Do any travelcards include the train from Stansted airport?

Would have been better as a separate question bu the answers are

    1) Family one day travelcard (but note FREE travel for children on Saturday & Sunday, so a normal travelcard might be better on those days)- http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/fares-tickets/2005/downloads/tfl-fares-2005.pdf#page=16

    2) no discounts, but the cheapest way from Stansted to London is Terravision coach or the National Express coach.

The London promotion is for both tourists and locals :)

I do agree tho. I don't have an Oyster card (nor do I live in London!) and wouldn't mind a 2-4-1 offer for the Eye. I presume more tourists than locals would want this offer.

For non-London dwellers, Oyster is London's travel smartcard.
  • Er, not sure why everyone thinks it's just Oyster Cards - paper tickets are valid as well!

See this from the T&Cs (http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/tandc-promotions.shtml)
    1. To be eligible for a discount, customers must have travelled to the venue that day by London Underground or a Transport for London (TfL) London Bus and must retain and present to venue staff an Oyster card or paper ticket valid for that travel on the day of redemption. Oyster cards may be scanned to verify usage.

    3. .....The following tickets are not valid for the promotion: non retainable tickets including Tube single tickets and Tube carnet tickets, tickets that do not show proof of travel on day of redemption including Bus saver tickets, tickets valid for travel on National Rail only, tickets valid for travel on Tram only, tickets valid for travel on DLR only....

No-one thinks it's Oyster Card only, it's just that the one offer most people would consider the Biggy - the London Eye - is restricted to Oyster Card holders only.
  • Doh! Re-read and realised just as you posted - sorry everyone!

    Hi,
We are going to London by train this weekend and staying at Kings cross.

We want to go on the London eye and was also going to buy tube passes.

Can someone please explain what an oyster card is , where I buy one and how much they cost as oppose to other underground tickets ( I assume that the oyster is for underground). seema a good deal as was gonna do the london eye and tussads anyhow.

Not wishing to hijack the thread we also need other info as never stayed there before , like a good place to eat , good places to drink etc. A supermarket near a tube station to stock up on vodka!

    Thanks in advance
On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.

Although on the blurb it says Oyster Cards only get 241, if you click on the T&C for the Eye it says either Oyster Cards OR paper tickets to be presented for the offer.

It says tube single tickets are not valid for this offer nor tickets that don't have the date of travel.

You can “buy” an Oyster card for £3 from any LU Station. So by buying an Oyster it is still a lot cheaper than two full price tickets using the 2 for 1
