Returning to UK

Hello......I have a question.
OH and I are returning to live in the UK after almost 4 years of life in Canada. We're approaching our 60's and are retired.....which is the best bank account for retirees? So many of those with the "cash"bonus seem to be aimed at people who can have a salary paid in on a regular basis. We still have an account with A&L, but would like something which pays a good rate of interest. Any advice appreciated.:)

First of all may I say that after living in such a beautiful country as Canada why on earth would you want to come back to this ripped off, clapped out, pc, over-regulated, dump of a country when most people are trying to go the other way.
As far as the bank accounts are concerned are you wanting to know about a current account that pays a good rate of interest for your day to day expenses, or are you looking for somewhere to put your savings?Age & Treachery Will Always Overcome Youth & Enthusiasm !!

Hello dwileflunke, and thanks for your reply.
Firstly....living in another country isn't nearly as wonderful as people might suppose; Canada too is ripped off, over-regulated, over-taxed, lacking in culture, knowledge and intellect - but it does have wide open spaces, big skies and beautiful scenery. These thing, however, are not enough on which to hang a life. Canada is a very different country from the one i lived when I lived here in the 1980's, and I cannot wait to get back Home and retrieve my Life.
Secondly...I'm looking for both types of accounts, but as I said earlier all those with bonuses etc, seem to be aimed at students or people with regular earnings......we're neither, so if you can suggest a suitable bank or building society, that would be great.0 -
Have a look at the savings articles over there

Many choices depending on what exactly you need.Trying to keep it simple...0 -
Poundland is (finally) starting to speed up transfers between accounts - would look at savings accounts rather than trying to find a high-interest current. Coventry do som decent accounts from time to time for us oldies, other than that you might want to look at some 1-2 year fixed-rates. Moneyfacts is a decent site for rates http://www.moneyfacts.co.uk/savings/default.aspx0

have a look at smile for an easy online account. There is a smile savings account with instant transfer, which I use as my feeder account and I am always getting reasonable interest, although my biggie savings accounts are with icesave and NR e saver. Long term savings are with ns&i index linked certs
