FTB - How to 'allocate' savings

You must pee money to be able to think about spending that much on furnishing a house.
Especially if you're planning an extension which will ruin carpets, fill furniture with dust and be a nightmare.
You can furnish a house completely from scratch for about 3k. Nothing second hand and that includes kitchen white goods.
Do you have no furniture?0 -
Is there a link to the sofa?0

On the sofa thing, I know I started it and I admit, I have three suites.
But one I bought when I was pregnant, over eight years ago now, was half price in Allders and cost me £1100 and is going prouder now than some of the houss we've bought! The next suite which would have been nearly £3000 but we blagged a trade deal after a bit grovelling and I think it cost £1200 or £1800 (I can't remember
) and even that is superb quality leather. But I hate sitting on it because it's so cold all the time.
And the third is in storage in SIL's house. That was £200 super-comfy, solid framed bought from a friend who bought it in House of Fraser but wouldn't fit into her new place. We wrecked the thing in nine months because it's cream but a reupholster one day will see it good again.
I'm not against £2500 sofas, but I wouldn't pay that, that's all! (says she having spent £2600 or £3100 on three sofas and three chairs)Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

The one we've got at the moment was £40. Age Concern Charity shop in Failsworth.
They've got a leather one in today - dark green and quite posh - £80.
They have a smashing dark red 3 and 2 for about the same too. Really good nick too. I'm glad there are so many people who change their sofa so often!0 -

Ok, I'm not going to buy a green leather sofa at any price but the £200 quid solid framed cream one would have cost more if we've bid for it on ebay I'm sure!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Hello TT1,
Have you done this interesting calculation.
How much per square meter are you paying for the house and how much per square meter does you estimate of £20000 for the extension cost.
Might be interesting to share that with us.There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -
Recliners should be banned! They're an affront to good design. :rotfl:Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
