Yeah I was going to post this but you beat me to it :)

    eBay: Money For Old Rope?
    10:00pm - 10:30pm
    BBC2 North
    VIDEO Plus+: 73155
    Repeat, Subtitled, Widescreen

Investigation into online auction house eBay, said to be the fastest-growing company in history, earning over 3 billion dollars a year. Reporter Rajan Datar tries his luck as a small-time entrepreneur selling on eBay, and meets the man who's bought a house in France on his profits. He also meets some of the eBay losers - the antiques and junk shop owners - and sees how eBay's success is now attracting the attention of the taxman.

    Bu**er.........
  • I know that it has already started. It is a repeat, does anybody know whether it is any good?
  • If its the one where the bloke sells old rope found on a beach on Ebay, its funny as f***! Bloke sells rope for £2 but only puts £1 p&p, and it ends up costing over a fiver to post! DOH! I guess beginners all start somewhere, eh? ;)

It also contained the usual "I made ££££ on Ebay" - glorifying it, basically.
    Money saving:
Buy a Skoda. Laugh at the VWs who paid several grand more
Its a diesel. 50mpg - laugh at all the petrols
Its a tuned 260bhp diesel - laugh at them in the rearview mirror as they vanish
See my 260bhp dyno run video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BvjJjL7Z50
  • Is quite interesting. Money for old rope :rotfl: . It says ebay are concerned that the fraudsters will be the death of them and scare users away. Taxman has already been mentioned and apparently ebay are reminding sellers to pay their taxes.
:idea:I got an idea, an idea so smart my head would explode if I even began to know what I was talking about:idea:
  • Well... for the first time the other week went onto the ebay site registered and got a few things and have since been thinking all them clothes i never wear..I have a digital camera and have played at the idea of trying to make a little extra.. however... he just said that he had to pay ebay commision of 2.00 even if he charged the correct amount for the postage he would have been down.. and if paypal are involved I guess you have to pay them a slice... so don't understand when you are only seeling items for a few pounds how you get to make any money!!!! or is it me being blonde????

Yes there was too much of that - it made it appear that people can expect to make thousands of pounds and live in the nice big houses that some of them lived in!

Yes, I can't quite see how he ended up paying that, for a final value of 30p on his old rope. I guess he might have used a listing upgrade like 'Highlight' (£2.50).

I couldn't work out the £2 fee for selling rope at 30p either. At the beginning he said he paid 30p to list it which I took to be 15p listing and 15 p gallery, but where the rest came from I've no idea.

Also he was a bit dim wasn't he to offer post and packing on 12 metres of rope for £1. he obviously doesn't get out much, even a large birthday card can cost over 70p now

I actually thought the programme was better than most, at least it explained about how ebay works and why it is so popular, it is apparently the 58th largest economy where the country Kuwait is the 57th highest economy.

I was surprised though that the little old chap selling his porcelain figures did so well, they looked ghastly, especially the Princess Diana one.
