Direct Debit details required BEFORE quote !

Hi everyone (first time post),
I have been phoning and surfing around in order to get some life insurance. As I suspected nice easy standard quotes obtained until I mention that I am on medication. Again, as I suspected insurance company want my permission to contact my doctor - no problem, and my bank details to set up a Direct debit - before I am given a final quote.
I pointed out to all of them that I would be willing to give my details out once I have accepted their quote but all of the companies (all well known companies) but all refuse to go ahead without my bank details.
Surely they must realise that I am going to compare prices and would not be willing to give my details out to 5 or 6 separate insurance firms (they don't seem to accept that "mistakes can happen"
Anyone else had this problem ?

OH has medical problems and hasn't been asked for his bank details first.
Are you trying the leading insurers or the random ones out of the phone book?;)I am not a complete idiot - some parts are missing;)0 -

It's normal for insurers to accept you initially on standard terms whilst they undertake the necessary medical checks - either writing to your doctor, or getting a medical undertaken, or whatever.
Then they will increase the premium retrospectively if they deem it necessary, or you can cancel if you don't like the increased premium.
If they do things like this, obviously they need the DD details up-front. You don't get to find out the final premium before you start the policy, but nor do you have to pay any higher premium if you don't like it.
It costs insurers to get doctors' reports and the like, so they don't expect you to approach half a dozen insurers just to see what they will charge. They expect you to intend to want the policy and hence expect you to start paying straight away.0
