Moving House

Hi - I'm trying to find out what to do re my gas & electricity after moving house. I seem to be able to find all sorts of info about what to do if you're the person moving but not the person moving in (if you see what I mean).

My old account is still in use by my husband as we've separated so it's not a case of simply switching my account to the new address. Obviously the previous owners of my house have taken a reading the day they moved out and I've taking readings on the day I moved in but do I have to find out which supplier they had to be able to switch to the one I want? Presumably the gas & electric supply is still being supplied by their old provider so I would need to contact them to close the account or something wouldn't I?

You should be able to call the supplier you want to be with & they will do the rest. Just have the meter reading ready when you call.

    Hope this helps.

Phone your old supplier and they will take your name off the bill at the old house and put your husband's name on.

The previous owners should have given you the details of who supplied their gas and electricity. You then phone up that supplier and arrange to take over that supply. You also give them the meter readings so that you don't end up paying more than you should.

Once you have done that you can then switch to another company if you prefer.
