Kitchen Extractor in Chimney

I am planing on putting my cooker in my chimney. Is it possible to just line the chimney and then close the chimney off and just leave a hole for the lining to be attached to an extractor fan that would be turned on by a switch???

Is there any regulations ( i am sure there will be) as to how powerful my extractor as to be and what I need to do to the chimney???

Cheers

We did this with a cooker and extractor hood in the chimney. Thing to watch out for is that the chimney is still open at the top, otherwise you are in danger of creating a load of condensation within the chimney that will eventually seep thru to chimney walls to the rooms it goes thru...if that makes sense! :)

We had a stainless steel closure plate installed so that the chimney was blocked from the kitchen end, with a hole cut to take the vent pipe of the extractor. Closure plate was removable, and we had a 'cage' thing put into the chimney pot at the top to stop birds getting in. We didn't get any building reg approvals...I don't think any were or are needed? Someone will be along in a min to correct me if I'm wrong.

    Hope that helps a bit.
