there's a ticket booth at schipol, so you can buy your ticket using a note easily. IIRC its 4.60 euros for a ticket to centraal station. i would change at least *some* money before going, even if its only 20quid at the post office...

as for cash machines, theres plenty around. we generally used the one on the corner of dam square just off damrak. i've never had any problems using my solo card over there in cash machines so you should be fine.

Cash machines are ten-a-penny in Amsterdam, and there are also loads of currency exchange kiosks. Some of them use the 'buy' rather than 'sell' rate as a headline rate though so keep your head on and ask.

You can probably tell from my nick that I go there a fair amount, and never had a problem. Cash machines in Schiphol definitely accept Maestro.

Sounds like Wanye and I have the same favourite cashpoint lol.... that the ING one on Dam Square you're talking of?

Have a great time, OP... it's a fantastic city.

Thanks for all your help. You guys are the best. I checked that and other sites - so is the best rate 1.25.

Sorry to ask - I can be really stupid with common sense and the internet.
