And as I said...."some" of the members involved in this discussion where discharged....I dont know the OP and cant comment on their circumstances but as i've said if they have a small ammount of surplus cash left each month they can do what the heck they want with it.....tough rules I know but it happens & there aint much you or I can do to change it...but if the undischarged BR does win any cash with this arrangement they would still have to inform the OR of finance changes within 21dys

um, I don't think I said anything about discharged bankrupts? I was just surprised that the OP, who is undischarged, has enough spare cash to gamble, that's all. I'm probably on the wrong side of all this to comment so don't mind me. I just know that if the person who owes my OH money had enough spare to gamble I'd be livid.

    Hi JoeHel,

I'm familiar with your circumstances and I sympathise with the way some crook has been able to use the bankruptcy laws to make a mockery of what most people would consider to be justice.

I've spent the majority of my working life working in our own businesses, and most of the time have done very well from so doing. However, there have been times, the last two years most specifically, when I've got things monumentally wrong, and found myself well and truly compromised; bankrupt indeed.

I don't really think that gives other people the right to judge how I, or other bankrupts, spend their surplus cash.

The bad debts I've had to suffer over the years are significant, but no more or less that I budgtetted for.

Your remedy is with the person who has so badly wronged you, not with others who've been obliged to turn to bankruptcy as a last resort.

    Regards

    Richard

Unless you have a stop-loss limit, even a very small spread bet can run up large liabilities. Some spreadbetting accounts require a deposit to cover this, so I don't fully understand how this can be financed on small change.

Point taken Richard. I have not felt the need to post on many of the threads on this forum and have felt deep sympathy for most forced down the bankruptcy route. I apologise profusely if I have caused any offence and I am NOT judging anyone who has had to go bankrupt for whatever reason. I simply was questioning whether gambling was a good thing to do with surplus cash, in the circumstances. If that has been misread then I have obviously wrongly worded what I said. I am not out to judge or have a go at anyone.

The original question was a `what if` question. Thanks to those of you who have more balanced views. As I said in my original post, I started spreadbetting with a deposit of £30 and from that made over £7000 in profit with which I used to pay some debt and closed the account. It wasn't the cause of my BR and all my creditors were Mr & Mrs Very High Interest Credit Card and their neighbour Mr Extra High Fees Mortgage Company. A few weeks ago I opened a dummy spreadbetting account (phantom money) which is currently £250 in profit, a bit of fun but useful to keep an eye on the markets with. As a bankrupt who hasn't yet been tied to a stick and burnt I will probably just spend my spare pennies on the usual - Gin, fags, scratchcards and very demanding Toyboy:D

If he's ever in need of a change of scenery, London can be nice at this time of year. Even if it's raining, I'm sure I'll find something for us to do to while away the hours. :D
