I'm on duel fuel with scottishpower who keep sending me silly estimated bills so I cancelled the DD until it gets sorted out. I have written 3 times giving them readings and finaly received a "proper bill". However, they have not deducted payments I have made by DD and expect me to pay the full amount.

All I want is a bill that includes payments already made:mad:

Cancelling the DD wasn't a good idea unless you had told them you were doing it, even though I can understand the reasons.

Have you got anything to show you have paid the installments such as bank statements? Make photocopies of these showing the transactions. (If ness, blanking out other personal transactions if you want to protect your privacy.) Send these in to Customer Services asking for a revised statement showing the deductions. Another meter reading to date wouldn't go amiss either. If you have thrown your bank statements away, go into your branch and I am sure they will be able to track the dates down to give print outs.

Doing things in writing is ok but its bound to be a lot slower, why dont you just ring them to sort it all out? Scottish power have a freephone number after all?

Yes, it may be a bit slower but by doing it that way and sending the letter recorded delivery you have shown the proof of payment. Although one can ring up and there is no harm in the OP doing so, they may still ask for proof of payments anyway. If the situation escalated to legal proceedings (which hopefully it wouldn't) The very fact the letter had been sent showing the payments would stand in good stead. (Remember to keep a copy of all correspondence.)

Sorry, what I meant was, if the OP had phoned and gave meter reading in the first place, it probably wouldnt have got to the point where they would have to send things in letters.

Phoning to give a meter reading = 5 mins

Writing a letter + posting etc could take a week before they get the readings.

    My turn to clarify:D

I didn't mean for her to write in with the meter readings, but the proof she has the direct debit payments made:T If they try to start denying she has made them then this would be proof. You can't prove that over the phone!
