Hi, last year for xmas we got my dad a Binatone Carreara X350 w SatNav and it's gone wrong! I've bene told I can return it to the store to be replaced, I don't have the receipet but I do have the Argos card statement and they said they need the item number they don't do this anymore but they need it befor they'll accept it. If I don't have it I'll have to pay £45 to get it repaired by Binatone. Sorry for posting here but have been trying to sort this since it went wrong in Jan between moving, getting married and going on honeymoon!
Thanks
Helen
Thanks
Helen

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.0

A bit of a long shot ... but if you still have the original box the cat number might be on it on a white sticker.

I've had a google around and although i can see that Argos sold the X350, I can't find a cached page with the catalogue number.
However.......... As long as you have the Argos Statement showing the transaction, then that is all you need. It's up to them to find the catalogue number.
As a consumer, your only responsibility is to provide proof of purchase, which you have. Anything they require is up to them to find out......perhaps they should have thought of printing the catalogue numbers on their statements.
So don't worry, just provide your proof of purchase. That's all trading standards advise that you are required to provide evidence of

No that one is the A350 I've got the X350
Groovy Girl unfortunately my dad threw the box away, as it did work to begin with.
SaintsCouple, yeah I tried looking for a cached page too. I have called again today and they still can't get me a catalogue number, they said if my mother in law calls (again- It's her account) then they can give her the transaction number, although they couldn't the other day, and then we go to the store we got it from and they can get the catalogue number. Is it only me that finds it ridiculous that they have no history or numbers or anyway to find them out!!!!
Is there anyway I can take it back and get a refund does anyone know? with just the Statement, as that is proof of purchase?
Thanks

I've just checked the Summer 2007 catalogue and there are no Binatone satnavs in there.0

its quite possible that it was introduced as a non catalogue line half way through the life of catalogue, so you wouldnt have a chance in hell of finding the code unless you had the box it came in, the flyer it was advertised in, or a copy of the old laminated store catalogue.
i work for argos customer services and DO expect a customer to provide proof of purchase, but its very common for the staff to have to do the leg work to find a catalogue number. i certainly wouldnt have sent you away to look for it. any member of staff worth their salt would check the last 2 catalogues, and if its not there would deduce that its either a nic line (non catalogue) or an intergreated line.
the store could phone store support to see if they can identify it, or as a long shot binatone themselves to see if they have a record of the number (some companies print the cat numbers directly onto their packaging, others are labelled at argos distribution centres, so its a hard one to call).
return to store and ask for their help. if the customer advisor isnt interested then ask for a manager. remain friendly and polite, and im sure you will be fine.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0
