Experts-Exchange.com

Options
hi

Experts-Exchange.com is a paid website (it used to be free... but now charges a monthly amount and still uses advertising!! bad site)

anyway - you can search on google and find its answers, and there are ways of getting the answers you need for free... one way is to use mozilla etc, but that involves installing new stuff to pc (go here for details http://teamtutorials.com/other-tutorials/get-free-answers-from-experts-exchange )

but the other way... is even simpler! simply scroll to the bottom of the page... all the info is there?

I'm not sure how long this will be available, but until its removed its quite a handy site (but remember - you can get most information for free these days so once it goes, go somewhere else)

I used to use that site but since they now charge I avoid it and never click any link to it.

The basis of the internet is the information is free as it is here.

So avoid paying and try and keep the internet as it should be.

If people start paying everyone will start charging.

    Hi all,

I have the opposite opinion of BritBrat and Buffyslay. I pay a yearly fee to use experts-exchange. It is only $99 per year which I think is great value for money.

There are people on experts-exchange who are real experts in their field and when you have a problem no one else can fix often these people can. If you take the subscription fee and divide it by your hourly rate of pay, how many hours of reading and researching would you have to do on other sites before experts-exchange pays for itself? Probably not even half a day!!!

Since I started using it 18 months ago I've had over 20 questions, which I had already tried to answer myself with copious hours of reading, answered in a couple of days. Sometimes the answers come in just minutes.

Plus, not only do you get the ability to ask the "Experts" your own specific question but you also get access to the 2 million already answered questions. I often look at experts exchange for nice and clear instructions for simple tasks which I've done before but its been so long I've forgotten some or all of the steps.

If you can get access to experts-exchange for free through google (which I think they are slowing stopping) then great. I know I used it for free as a student and I wouldn't pay if I was a home user. But if none of the answers match your exact query or you have a lot of questions like us IT admins do, you might just need to ask the experts!

And lets not forget that they need to pay for the servers, the bandwidth, the web design, and its nice to be able to reward your top experts every now and again, as these are the guys helping us all our for nothing but a thank you!

I guess you could compare it to here and a million other free on-line forums, there are people here in the tech, money and other sections who are true experts in their field, from senior IT professionals to IFAs and investment experts. All are providing their advice for free, in return they get their questions answered too.

I and may hundreds of others have given thousands of tips and free advice, in our specialist fields, yet if you employed me professionally you'd be paying a very hefty day rate! ;) But this isn't about business, I enjoy helping others, as many people do, so when I've spare time between meetings, I pop on and post.

It all depends what you want. Someone who knows how to harness the real power of Google can find the answer to almost anything on-line.

The information is all out there, it's having the skill to drill down to it. And also having the skill to cut through the rubbish, backup things with cross article so you know truth from fiction.

It has been like this since it turned into a pay site. In my experience, the answers at the bottom are not always very useful and tend to be people's guesses rather than fact, especially when you get into the real technical stuff.

You don't have to pay to get access - in fact membership is free and if you get a certain amount of points answering questions you get a free premium membership - that's the way I got mine.

I would say that 90% of the answers are no better than can be found elsewhere
