new shed - what does "NO BASE" mean?

Hi Everyone

Me and hubby are looking to buy a new metal shed (we haven't got one already).

We've seen one online from a reputable company and they have a sale, so it's 35% off

In the ad, it says "BASE NOT INCLUDED"

What exactly does this mean? Does it mean that they don't include slabs for the shed to sit on or does it mean that it's like a bottomless shed? i.e., like a huge hole in the floor? I don't understand :(

Sorry to sound so dumb but it's the first garden we've ever had ;)

It means you will get 4 walls and a roof - but no floor. Then up to you what you place the shed on - and that maybe depends on what you use if for.

    Hope this helps ...

Get some old pallets and build a deck to place your shed on. Build it to the outside dimension of the shed then when the shed is built on top you can screw it to the base. Then place the whole thing on slabs or bricks so its off the floor. Probably a good idea to put your slabs down first.

    Are you sure

I would have thought it meant that the advertised shed was shown on a base ( paving slabs, decking, etc ) and it was this that is not included. ( Surely the shed would have a floor ?? )

I would double check the website FAQs and see if anyone else has asked this question. Failing that, I would email the company and ask.

This does one of two things:-
    1. If you get a reply then hopefully it will answer your question and prove that their customer service is on the ball.
    2. If they do not reply - then do you really want to do business with them ??

It will not come with any kind of floor. Whatever surface you put it down on will become the base of the shed.

The reason the metal ones have no base is so that you can screw them down to your concrete base to stop people nicking all your stuff by lifting the shed up. (I've heard it does happen!)

We ordered one and when it came there were thousands of bits to assemble. Having picked ourselves up off the floor at the work that was gonna be involved, we continued reading through the instructions only to find that it had to be bolted onto a concrete slab! This was not made clear in the description - it read as though the shed floor was an optional extra, but the shed could still be erected anywhere......
We do not have a concrete base, (or any prospect of one) so we sent it back. The courier who collected it says many people are caught out by this, also by the assembly instructions. Think carefully.
