This has been on AV Forums and digital spy for ages but i have never seen it on here. Thats puzzelling as it is one heck of an offer.
Ring sky up and tell them you want to cancel, when you get passed onto the 'we will do anything to keep you' cancellations department, say you are unhappy at having to pay £260 to get sky + and that a friend got it for £49 including installation.
They will offer you a refurbished sky+ box with a new HDD for £49, dont forget to say you dont want multiroom as you only have 1 TV  .
Some people have recently been getting new boxes for £65 too.
There is someone selling this info on eBay so i thought i would give it out for free.

I cant believe there has been no replies, i thought everyone on here would be well chuffed at this offer. Offers from sky for existing customers are scarce without added on cons (introduce a friend, multiroom).0

You've probably had no replies cos it's in the techiw section. If you put it in the telly section, where there is already a ky thread running. more people will see it.
I only found it because I typed digital tv into the quick search, and you popped up amongst the digital camera offers.
Anyhoo, my hubs is on the phone righ tnow, but I think we're just gonna get the free replacement box, and save the £50.(my 4 year old squirted it with his new spiderman water squirter, which grandad helpfully got for his birthday)
Good tip though, thanks vey much.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
did it work???0

Sorry if i repeated this thread, i always thought this would be a good place for it, never noticed a tele section. Please could a mod move it if it is not mentioned in the other thread.0

Well, the squirter worked a treat, and now resides on the top shelf in teh bathroom, where it will remain until better weather, and he will be banished into the garden with it and some siblings/dogs to squirt.
As for the box, it has given up the ghost, and an engineer is coming on Saturday with a new one.
They wanted to charge us loads of money for enineers time/new box. But we said we'd rather go to NTL and get a nice new free box, so they've graciously decided to keep our custom.
Good for them. That's the way to do it.
Bit cheeky of hubs to ask fo rit to come before Saturday's 5O'CLock kick off though. :-)I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Just thought I'd share this with all of you fine people!

My DH rang sky last night to enquire about Sky+ using the freephone number that I found in another post - 0800 2793366 opt.1 - if anyones interested and hasn't seen the other post! Anyway he was told that it would cost us £260 for the pleasure. DH then told him that his brother is on the same package as us and has just had it fitted for £49 (which is true). He was then told that they couldn't do it for that but they could do it for £99 plus £10 a month subscription! DH then started going off on one and said that if they couldn't do it for £49 then we would cancel Sky altogther. He was then put through to the Cancellations Dept and when he eventually got through he again explained the conversation he'd just had. He was then told that he could have Sky+ for £65 which he has gone ahead and done - we've got an engineer coming out on Tuesday to fit it for us! :j We also get to keep our original box so we're planning on putting that one up in the bedroom so we can also have Sky upstairs :j
Incidentally if anyone's interested, we've been told that the £49 box is a phase 1 box, which means you get 20 hours recording time. The £65 boxes are brand new ones just out and have 40 hours worth of recording time. Not that is makes loads of difference but I though you might like to know!
The world would be a sad place to live with no chocolate!
