There are lot of rich peoples who dont need loan to buy house . So these are the peoples who inflate house prices .I agree house prices may correct a little but i dont think there will be any major correction in housing prices because everyone needs house and with growing population and growing immigrants housing demand will always be there moving its prices going up and up . (with minor corrections).
    You are spot on.
The last two properties I renovated one sold for £295k and other £375k were bought by cash purchasers, who still kept their other homes.
If there is no demand for homes why do we keep getting people contacting us all the time to see if we have any empty rental stock.

    I have not assumed this.
The OP question was whether realistically we would see a return to a 3.5x salary ideal.
I believe this is not possible as the way of the world has changed.

You're absolutely correct. The world has changed.

However, there's nothing to stop it changing again, and the result
of economic or social changes only allowing people to borrow
3.5 x salary. There's nothing stopping the world going through a
fuel or food crisis at some point in the future.

That's pretty much the plan with Mrs Generali, the Generalissimos and me. I took contracting jobs so we could afford for her to stay at home and raise the kids. It's luck as much as anything else that I have subsequently fallen into this rather lucrative line of working in a hedge fund.

I am going to have a househusband when I have kids. I earn more than OH and am more career minded so it makes sense for me to work and him to manage the household/look after kids.

We know we are fine on my salary alone so this isn't an issue. And he can take a career break and go back. I know we are more unusual in that it will be the man staying at home but it is the same principle financially.

I think it is a lucky and very nice position to be in to be able to afford to have one stay at home parent.

Although my parents had more money later on, when I was very young my mum had no choice but to work. I don't think it did either of us any harm though.

If Mrs Generali earned more than me it would be the other way around. I don't care who brings in the money as long as one of us does.

I've got no choice over who brings in any money. There's only me. Only ever has been just me. Only ever will be.

I wouldn't dream of saying "I'm going to have a housewife". Are you employing him or married to him? Is he your butler or something?

    I'd have a ex-wife if I was him... ;)

Pastures, are you student phil in disguise?

Be positive. Whatever we think, our mind is subconsciously striving to achieve. It doesn't know you're just negative and don't really want that.

I am positive. I have Aspergers, which often creates a factual and plain, open writing style which is perceived as negative by NTs (that means normal people)

    :)

    Is perceived as, or is?

"I've got no choice over who brings in any money. There's only me. Only ever has been just me. Only ever will be."

Please explain how that's positive in the slightest? I could find 100's of self dooming quotes from you.
