Old wood stain showing through white paint

I recently painted white 3 internal doors that had been stained by the previous owner a dark red/brown colour. I used a single coat of primer in white then a coat of Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer Sealer and Stain Killer paint (water-based) and finished with 2 coats of water based satinwood.[SIZE=-1]

Unfortunately, it didn't take long for yellow stains to start showing through. Is there anything I can do to rectify this? I was thinking of a light sand and then perhaps using 2 coats of the *oil-based* Zinsser stain block paint, followed by another light sanding and then 2 more coats of the water-based satinwood again. Is this likely to work? I don't want to put on another 4 coats of paint for the stain to still show through!

Thanks!

A new door would still require 3 coats of paint as well as the cost and hassle of fitting a new door. Plus I can't take the all the swearing from my husband when he fits doors!:rotfl:

you will need a solvent based undercoat to kill the stains , any water based paint will let the stain bleed thru

go for white gloss? it stinks but it should help cover up the stains.

Nicky is correct you will need a solvent or oil based sealer. Then use one coat of oil based undercoat and what ever top coat (Satinwood) you want to use.
