Sure start maternity grant - eligible?

Hi there,
My partner and I have a combined income of £28,000 per year. I work part time and earn £12,000 he earns £16,000. At the moment I get £10 week for my 9 year old son.

I am 34 weeks pregnant and want to know if we would be eligible to claim this maternity grant? It is confusing with the family element, so thought I'd ask you kind people on here :)

£10 a week is the family element so you wont qualify. its for those on low incomes or benefits.

You would not be entitled to it now, but you may be when the baby is born. You have until the baby is 12 weeks old to claim for it. I am presuming you're income will drop as you will be on Statutory Maternity Pay, in which case providing you notify CTC your award will be higher, as long as you are awarded more than £1094 in CTC (check that figure it may be £1096), with a child under one, then you will be entitled to the grant, even if you only get 50p more than the stated figure.
I love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.
