ADSA Card - Beware the points limit rip off

I have just got my ASDA card statment through. I was expecting lots of points but I got nothing. There was a notice on the statement congratulating me becuase I have reached my points limit.
What a rip off. I rang the customer servic dept to be told that there was a £30 limit on the points. I earned no points even though I was only at £21 worth of points. They told me they will investigate this and also told me that a letter was sent out last november telling everyone of this limit. Needless to say they are going to resend me the letter. I assured them that had I been aware of this limit i would not have used the card as much as I have done. I asked the rate at which the points as calcualted and it equates to 0.5% of the total spend.
This is one card that will now strictly be used purely for the petrol spending only. I feel another 0% spending card on it's way now.

Rant over.

Thanks for that, I'll call them and ask why my rewards are frozen (very painful!) at £23.82! That's less than half the vouchers that I usually get. I'll keep using my card for diesel but can anyone recommend a good card for cashback/vouchers that I can use for the rest of the year? I want to shop at Asda mainly for food. I tried reading the articele but it seemed to be full of people not getting accepted for credit.

When Asda 1st started this credit card wasn't one of the offers they used to get you hooked to do with repaying the BT fee back in vouchers?? it,s seems to have gone off the asda credit card page, so does that mean we won't be getting any vouchers at all !! if so thats another bad move by them!!

You will get vouchers (to use on Asda shopping) but a maximum of £30 each year whereas previously the more you spent the more vouchers you got. I was thinking that if I could get another similar card then I could use them for half a year each (approx) and get double the vouchers. I don't mean another Asda card but something giving me vouchers off things I really need like food! Any ideas?

Tesco and Sainsburys are two that spring to mind straight away

Tesco - earn Clubcard points and then use in store for food
Sainsburys - earn Nectar points and then use in store for food

You earn points on the first £12000 spent each year (running from November to October I think - as the vouchers are issued in November), that's what the website states anyway.

If the maximum value of vouchers is £30, then that would equate to 0.25% of the spend wouldn't it? 0.5% of £12000 would be £60. I thought it was 0.5% when I first got the card but now I'm not sure as they've already twice changed the way points are accrued in the 10 months or so I've had the card.

Mine is only used for petrol so I no longer get any points.

The last change they made from what I remember was that the minimum spend per transaction in order to qualify for points was £4 (changed from £2) and that points would be allocated in increments of £2.

So if 1 point = £1* spent you would earn:

    £2 transaction = nothing
    £4 transaction = 4 points
    £5 transaction = 4 points
    £6 transaction = 6 points

With the £5 transaction though... that gives 4 points, but I presume the full amount would be subtracted from the £12,000 annual spend limit. If this is the case then it could well explain why some people have had their points 'capped' at below the £30 you thought you'd get.

As I mentioned earlier, I only use the card for petrol. Everything else I use my Egg Money to get cash back. I don't think there's any cards out there that give vouchers which are worth it, not when compared to a cash back card anyway.

*Edit: I don't know for definate if this is accurate, it could be 1 point = £2 spend, in which case the points I've listed would need to be halved.

I hit the same <NEW> limit, and got the same nonsense.... how odd that i never got the notification letter either....

I have also had repeated problems using the card as it gets rejected (Ironically in ASDA usually.....), and i am told there is either no problem and its the retailer (ASDA) or they have a system problem

I think this should be made far more high profile as its turned into a supermarket rip off....I shall be stopping using this card for anything but fuel @ ASDA !!

I will be appling for a new card with cashback, research coming up

Using my Nationwide card (usually used for holiday spending)for purchases until i get a new card sorted,

Taking my vouchers in November and then considering binning this card,,,

John Lewis' Partnership Card also offers 1% cashback on purchases at John Lewis, Waitrose, Ocado and Greenbee, and 0.5% everywhere else. The cashback is paid in JLP gift vouchers, which can be used in Waitrose, John Lewis and through Ocado and are sent out quarterly.

Got a good deal on BTs, IIRC, but I forget exactly how much it is. Run by HSBC.

(Conflict of interest disclaimer: I work for Waitrose)

I,m dissapointed in this card now as well, even if you read and understand the T&C's they still dont give the full information. you dont get a 9 months @ 0% after the 1st 6 weeks and you pay an extra .24% for a bt after the 1st 6 weeks, nowhere is this mentioned at all. I am only using this now for petrol...
  • I never received this letter you are talking about either. I've just emailed them from their website asking why I've not been credited the correct amount of points for my spending for the last three months due to an IT error apparently, but I also knew nothing of this £30 cap!!! Not happy :(
I may be shy, but that doesn't make me an angel ;)
