to cut a long story short BY are trying to get £90.00 off me either for an engineer visit or cancelling a contract (they are not too sure) i have tried and tried to get to the bottom of this matter this is the 2nd time they have sent it to debt collectors 1st time it was returned to bt once i explained the problem this time no such luck. asm i told them it was disputed as they hadnt told me what the "one off" charge was for i was helpfully told "it's for your phone bill" think she thought she is smart but not she is an idiot coz she didnt listen. have contacted bt again and was told i would be called back again but still no call. i am writing to the MD as advised to by consumer direct but i cant find the name of the MD orthe head office address. can anyone help? thanks in advance!

Could be the remaining months of your contract left if you're cancelling it? Have you had a line connected recently?
You need to provide much more information about your problem so people can help.0 -
BT's maximum charge for breaching a 12 month line rental contract is £70 and, if you are in breach of a calls plan contract too, that could account for the extra.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

i had my line changed over from a pay and talk account to a post pay account because i couldnt get broadband with the pay and talk account but was told at the time of ordering i would be avle to. due to mis-selling it to me they switched it over free of charge. they are pretty sure it is for the engineer but again have to check. im just asking where their head office is as when i google it i can only get the address of business customers head office not for residential customers.0

Switching from Pay & Call to Post Pay should not incur you a connection charge, as you already have an active line you're just changing the way the line operates and what services are available on it.
It may have however started you on another contract, especially if you had taken up any kind of calling plan tariff at the point of switching over.
If you have been sent to collections then that means your account was closed, so why was it closed? I re-read your post a few times but you didn't seem to include that. Was it because of this £90 charge you refused to pay? If this is the case than it cannot be a cancellation charge as you wouldn't have yet cancelled.0 -
they closed the pay and talk account and opened a new account with a new account number for the post pay account. im getting hassled by debt collectors even though they have been told it is an ongoing duspute with bt and i was given no warning of it being handed over to dc's which, i believe, is illegal as i must have 7 days written notice before they sell the debt. is there anything i can do to stop the debt collectors hassling me other than falling out on them and repeating myself all the time!!!0
