Building a log cabin

Toying with the idea of building a log cabin at the bottom of the garden, running power cables down to it and using it as a study/office.
Want to build it myself rather than fork out x thousands to buy a flat pack one. Anyone had any experience in this, and where would the best place be to buy the logs for the outside
thanks in advance

Cool project, I dont know anything sorry, but if you do go ahead, remember to post pics
Im sure a bit of googling would throw up some DIY instructions. Save save save!!0 -
I bought and assembled a flatpack log cabin summerhouse a few years ago and when I did mine the price of the pack compared with buying the wood and cutting it to shape was such that the flatpack was definitely the better option.
Waltons Retreat Log Cabin I see prices have gone up a bit since I did mine but this type of building is very easy to construct. I think I spent longer getting the site right than actually putting it up.
EBAY ?
Just after I had put mine up I visited the local garden centre and was a bit peeved to find they were selling off their demo log cabin and I might have saved a bit by making them an offer. Would have been twice as much work taking it down and reassembling it but it's worth checking that there aren't end of season demo cabins which are being sold off as the model ranges change. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

If your looking to use it for a study/office then you will definately need building regulations and highly likely that planning permission is going to be needed.
it will need to be at least 1m within your boundaries and the best thing to do is to appoint a surveyor to guide you through the application process and submit drawings for approval.
If you dont get the right approvals your likely to blight your house if you try to sell or remortgage - which could be the most un-moneysaving move ever!0
