I know this kind of defeats the point of the object. You could go into the branch and/or do the transaction over the phone until your new one arrives.0

Any card reader will work for you - it doesnt have to be a Nationwide one - eg one issued by NatWest or Barclays would work or a Nationwide card reader issued to a friend or family memeber will also work. If you know anyone with a card reader issued by any of the big banks just borrow theirs until your new Nationwide one arrives. You will however need to use YOUR nationwide debit card.0

I do find these damn card readers annoying.
Though I align to the additional security aspect, there should be a balance between that and convenience - which is what Internet Banking is all about.
From my perspective, the biggest convenience for online banking is that I can check into my account and do my stuff anywhere, on any PC.
There should be some sort of sensible threshold on setting up new payments perhaps - such as setting some up over £200 should need a card reader!!Interested in property investment, web tech, social media, forex, equities. Also a proud father & entrepreneur of sorts.0 -
I received the letter in the post yesturday from Natwest, telling me I would be receiving one of these card reader things. Can one of you kind folk explain it to me in plain english lol.....like do i have to use the card reader everytime I use my card online or is it just the once??? thanks'Normal' is a dryer setting.0

Kiwifruit - from what I understand you won't need to use the card reader for every aspect of internet banking, I think you will be able to do things like check your statement and not need it, but you will need it to transfer money from your account and maybe to set up a standing order.
It doesn't look complicated, and may actually be easier as you won't need to remember so many codes.
I think you will just need your customer id number as before and then a new PIN will be generated for each transaction with the card reader.
I think it's a good idea security wise, and also saves me remembering so many numbers and codes!
I might be wrong, sorry if I am!0 -
Essenchill - thanks for that......'Normal' is a dryer setting.0
