Zone 6 border - Gatwick ticket
I am going to Gatwick from either Victoria or London Bridge later, returning in a few days time. The Gatwick journey will be on Southern. I will probably catch the train from Victoria calling at Clapham Junction, East Croydon, and Gatwick Airport
I have a current Southwest Trains monthly travelcard valid for zone 1 - 6.
When I recently went to Watford, I was sold a return ticket from 'Zone 6 Border' to Watford (even though the train was non-stop, only passing through zone 6 at high speed).
Is this a valid ticket on Southern?
Or can I buy a Saver Return from Coulsdon South to Gatwick? (My train will not be stopping at Coulsdon South, though others on the same route do, albeit only on Sundays.)

You should be able to buy an extension from BZ6 to Gatwick - though sometimes finding a ticket clerk who knows about them can be a problem
You can't buy a return from Coulsdon to Gatwick - only singles in each direction. For some reason they are more expensive heading towards London than out..... They would be acceptable though.0 -
If you specifically ask for "a saver return from Boundary Zone 6 to Gatwick Airport" you will be fine. Most clerks in the London area know how to do this. The 2007 price of the open return was £13.80 but that seems to say Gatwick Express only on it. I can see a "not Gat Ex" ticket, but they are only day options (in 2007, £4.80 out.
Note the 2008 price will be a little more than this, it is just that the full ticket office software I have is only current to end 2007. Chances are if you get a clerk who looks like hes been on the railway a while, and knows his stuff, he will sell you the best ticket for what you need.
Make sure you show your railcard if you have one (Gold Card/Network Card/Young Persons/etc).0 -
Looking at current fares your best bet seems to be a Standard Open at £10.20 (thats before discounts). According to the up to date fares software I have the options are listed as below.

Nope.
Gatwick airport isn't in Zone 6 so you need a paper ticket extension.
Also unless you have a season ticket on your oyster that covers Zone 2 -6 you need to buy a ticket for the entire route.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

The Oyster page makes reference to zones 1 - 9. Is this correct? I thought the zones only go to zone 6. Which zone in Gatwick in ?0
