One of the tweeters in my IMF tls50s has packed up and I'm looking for a suitable replacement.
Yes I will be replacing both!!
I've had the speakers since before many users on here were born!
The tweeters were replaced years ago when IMF were still around by possibly Audax units.
It's difficult to say because they are embossed with the IMF logo, this is apparently unusual.
I'm looking for a modern replacement i.e.120mmx80mm plate with a 25mm dome tweeter.
Monacor,Visaton,Seas and Morel are all suggestions.
Has anyone used Impact Audio?
They seem to have good deals on Monacor speakers.
All opinions on all aspects are welcome.
TIA R

I suspect there is a HiFi forum somewhere where good advice can be got on this.0

I have been on a specialist forum, which initially was good, and I made a good contact.
The thing is,because of its specialist nature there is only a small number of users and therefore a narrow range of opinions.
I thought a quick question on here might throw up some suggestions.
It never ceases to amaze me the range of knowledge and experience that appears on these pages.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Seems that not so many people go on those specialist forums, or they go less often. I had specialist issues with restoring a broken laptop - got advice on that particular model's sub-forum but the responses were quite slow and it helps to bump after a gap.0

Yup, tried that.
It's not helped that I've got left behind with what's currently around.
I accept that there is going to be some sort of compromise, but they are classic speakers, and despite being 30yo they are still impressive.
Just need someone to say "these are what you need to be looking at".
I think another problem is that I would be going into the unknown by deviating from the originals and so the final outcome could be a disappointing sound.
Also it's replacing a drive unit and so you can't just pop into Richer Sounds for a demo.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
In the past - my bachelor days - I built kit speakers and also replaced tweeters in other speakers. With the latter yes, it altered the sound as it was just a quick fix not an antique restoration.
What I think you need to do spud17 is contact up to 10 different specialist hifi restorers/repairers, people who have real hands-on (and ears-on) experience and a parts bin. You could start here http://www.affordablevalvecompany.com/index.html (who claims to be selling a set of drivers for your speaker). Does not matter if they are abroad as a tweeter can be airmailed. Ask them if they can locate an original spare or recommend a similar sounding and fitting replacement.0
