bank account problem

Hi

Wondering if any one can help!

My partner is a non uk resident who lived here for 2 years. they had their bank account closed as their visa had expired, and then tried to open an account with a false residence permit. This too was rejected. The police were called but no action was taken, although they were removed from the UK. No criminal charges were made.

My partner is back in the UK on a valid residence permit, has tried to open a bank account as they are due to start working soon, but the Halifax has refused to open an account, although we do not know why.

They had an orange phone bill which the bill was not paid as their account was closed and they were not in the country. Orange have said they have taken no action i.e. not sent to a debt agency (?)

My question is....is it likely the attempts to open a bank account with the fake residence permit be logged on an anti fraud register somewhere and prohibiting my partner from opening a bank account? If this is the case, is there anyway around it?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Try Citi Bank, they have specialist accounts for over-seas workers, if you don't mind me asking what is your nationality?

Even if Orange haven't send the debt to a DCA, surely it will be showing on your partners credit file as unpaid. If when applying for a bank account they are using an address that is either the same as or associated with one that they used when with Orange, it will show up and therefore they will be rejected.

That is quite likely. After all, your partner attempted fraud. Banks (and insurances), by their nature, have to be particular sensitive to cases of dishonesty.

Probably not for a number of years, at least legally. See the CAB or some Migrant Organisation, but do not attempt an other DIY job.

    Try www.simpleaccount.co.uk
They don't do any credit checks, so almost anyone is guaranteed an account with them. I think you just need proof of address and proof of signature - but just double check that. I have a ccj, and I got an account straight away, with a Mastercard!

The site is not secure, it does not have a certificate, until this site can be verified then I would not post your personal data on their, just in case.
