Horrible Scottish Power Letter...

Received a VERY scary letter in the post today from Scottish Power (my energy supplier for Gas and Electricity) giving me a stern warning: if I am not present at my property this coming Tuesday (27th May) for them to change my meter from a Power Card one to a Key Meter, they will be applying for a Warrant under their statutory Rights of Entry. Ok, I'm perhaps to blame for cancelling so many job numbers in the lead up to this, but these cancellations were due to work committments (I live alone and don't have anyone to represent me). And I need to work to pay bills (for example, my gas bill of £220 arrived the other day and I paid it by Direct Banking the same date). The problem now is that, because of the Bank Holiday Weekend, I don't have work tomorrow (Friday 22nd), Saturday or Holiday Monday.......but I'm back in again Tuesday morning.............the precise time when they're coming out to work on my meter. I CAN however be available the following day (the Wednesday, a day later than they planned) so I'm hoping that, when I call them tomorrow, they'll grant me this request. Has anyone else been in a similar situation with their supplier? I'm just hoping that they'll be kind enough to agree to come the day after they planned and won't be resolute with their own intended date of visiting. But perhaps it's too late and not open to negotiation....I'm really, really upset about this, I hate situations like these, I'm just no good in them at all. Don't have the stomach for it.

It takes a long time for it to reach the stage of a warrant. I don't thin that they will change the day as the cost for getting the warrant has now been made. They have had the cost for setting up all these other appontments that have been cannciled.
It just needs to be someone over the age of 16 in the property, no relitivs who can sit in for a day or a freind?LBM:j -16/06/04

No, perhaps my first post wasn't clear, apologies there, but they stated in the letter I got yesterday that applying for a warrant hasn't yet been done and that they'd rather avoid that course of action, so long as they can gain entry.Anywayz, phoned this morning (after a nightmarish, stomach-churning night) and the girl I spoke to was incredibly nice and was only too happy to change the appointment to another more convenient time in early June. All that worry for nothing! Still, it's taught me a lesson....0 -

Keep this appointment. Your supplier may refuse you further appointments if this one is missed and prefer to fit the meter via warrant.
If you cannot be there for the job then someone over the age of 18 (not 16) will need to be present.
If your meter is outside and a PDV goes ahead and dependant on your supplier and the area you live in the meter may be changed on the PDV and a warrant will not be required (this is for electric only).
Again if the PDV goes ahead you will be charged for it and you will have to pay it.0 -

Not just Scottish Power who send out letters like this, they have to give these warnings.
I have known several people coming home to find a police sticker on the door stating Transo (now National Grid Gas) had a warrant to enter the premises to replace the meter, same with the local electricity distribution company.
They do normally give you quite a few opportunities to either be in or re-arrange the date.
For meter swaps it will either be National Grid Gas for gas meters and your local electricity distribution company (with people changing suppliers, this could be different to the company you pay your bill to). It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
