ex rental car

Check the tyres for tread, bulges and damage. People in strange cars always tend to kerb the wheels. Otherwise check the clutch if it is a manual.
Ex-hire cars can be good buys but be aware that every time I get a hire car I drive it "spiritedly". :rolleyes:The man without a signature.0 -
Me personally no - I've worked for Europcar and we thrashed the living daylights out of them and remember these cars can achieve 20K miles before 6 months are up, they are not serviced (well ours wasn't) and they are generally treated badly by those who rent them. But having said that you can get a newish car for a lot less.

I looked at a cople of ex-rental cars - both had missed their 10,000 mile service. I was concerned that their warranty was void so gave them a miss.0

I bought an ex enterprise VW Polo over a year ago.
It was 6 months old at the time so had the balance of the manufacturers warranty.
Price was good compared to new price.
Had no problems at all - a superb car.
Just check to make sure all the documentation is correct.
A sensible way to buy a nearly new car with a lump of depreciation already gone and protection with the manufacturers warranty!0 -
I purchased a 56 plate Focus Zetec from Evans Halshaw in Dec. Had been an ex-Hertz car. Full history and cost me under £8000. At least 1500 less than a comparable car from the dealers.
Mileage at present 25000. Had 14000 on the clock when I bought it. Since then I have put another 11,000 pleasurable driving miles on it.
When I replace it, probably this Dec I will look at this site again for another Focus.

We've had two ex-hire Vectras from Motorpoint.
Theirs tend to be National Car Rental vehicles.
Not had any problems with them that weren't covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
Vectras have very high 1st year depreciation, so higher spec ones are an absolute steal from Motorpoint - were always the cheapest by a good margin.
Their depreciation is no worse than other cars after the first year.
Service intervals are very high on Vectras, so no risk of hire cars missing a service as they don't keep them long enough.
My only tips are to look out for signs of damage and I would avoid small-engined ex-hire cars due to the thrashing problem. This isn't really an issue on larger engines.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
i had a crash a few months ago and was given a 1.6 astra from enterprise as a courtesy car as crash was other sides fault
car was really nice and i was more cautious driving it cos it wasn't mine (didn't want to have to pay for scratches or anything) and also it was heavier on petrol than mine.
i expected them to be all over it with a fine tooth comb looking for scratches cos it was less than 3 wks old when i got it, but they took it back and gave it someone else within minutes. got picked up and dropped off by their staff and that guy thrashed the cars they came in when drivingthings arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok
