Good cheap conditioner - dry hair!

Oh I forgot to mention. Ticklemouse recommended Aveda hair care to me a while back and I purchased some of the SAP MOSS range. It wasn't cheap, but my hair was amazing afterwards - really shiny and glossy and the GHDs just glided through. However, it was one extravagance I could not afford to maintain at £10 a tube!

My hair is very dry and a bit coarse textured. Often I dont do the condition and then rinse it all out routine. I wash my hair, then spread a small blob of the conditioner over my hands and rub through my hair and dont rinse and then let it dry in the hair. Now that is cheap!!! Could be worth trying?Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Having worked in the trade for years i just had to come and reply to this one...
first of all it is not bad for your hair to wash it every day unless you are using crappy products on it, ideally about every other day is okay otherwise your scalp get caked up with dead skin cells....very stinky
secondly- i dont care what anyone says, you do get what you pay for. Cheaper brands are full of ingrediants that are purely there for cosmetic reasons to make something smell nice, feel nice, lather well which means there is less room for things that will actually do something for your hair .... all those times youve commented on how nice a shampoo is because of all the bubbles... well they put a bubble making ingrediant in it just for that!!
- if you have seriously knackered hair ( and i have to put myself in this catergory due to an addicition to hair colour) then you need to towel dry your hair ( blot it not rub it) before you apply your conditioner. your hair is porus , and the more knackered it is the more porus it is... if you have just rinsed out the shampoo the hair is full of water and doesnt have space for the conditioner to 'get in'
- your shampoo is as important as your conditioner. a cheap nasty shampoo can strip your hair and dont use baby shampoos thinking they are mild. they are designed to help reduce the acid / alkaline reaction ( in other words dont sting babys eyes so much)
- the reason dry hair often gets very oily at the roots is because the sebaceous gland is desperately trying to produce something to help its hairs out there in the big wide world. Once you start to take care of it you should find it will baance out a bit although everyone obviously has a natural tendancy to dry/oil/normal hair
-take a serious look at your diet. if you are eating crap and not drinking enough water then your hair will reflect this. did you know that if you take an aspirin, ( as in ike for a headache) you can detect traces of it in your hair within 20 mins of swallowing it .... so what do you think is going to happen to your hair if you live off chips/chocolate etc ( not saying anyone does and i am the worst for choccies)
- would go on about what smoking does but no point, we all know and its boring
hope this helps a little bit ....hope i ddnt sound like i had gone into hairdressing teacher too much...old habits dye hard ( hahaha):EasterBun ...what more do I need to say?!

I guess it's that time of year isn't it! My hair gets a frizz on the minute the air gets a bit of moisture in it.
Maybe your shampoo is causing a problem? I use the body shop ginger one because it's the only one I've found that doesn't give me dermatitis. But what makes a difference is the body shop coconut oil. I don't even use a conditioner any more as they never made a difference. But I wrap my hair up in a towel and leave it to dry like that. Then I use a paddle brush, working from the ends to the roots to brush out the knots and I put a little coconut oil on to smooth it.
I wash it about every 3 days or it gets very dry. The body shop smooth over hair serum is okay too but a bit greasy if you use too much.
Funny, I only just noticed that I get all these from the body shop. It's so long since I needed any that I had forgotten! (I only use a tiny amount of each.)May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
Homemade Deep Hair Conditioner Recipe
There are several versions of "Banana" hair conditioner recipes if you google, some of which replace the lime juice with honey.
I've not heard personally from anyone using it but for those who want to give it a try the consensus is that you mash it up, put it on, wrap it in cling film or shower cap, leave it at least half an hour, then rinse off. You should notice an increase in shine and a decrease in frizziness.
Unless you have an allergy to bananas or honey I can't see any reason why there should be problems with trying this. Seems a good use for an overripe banana. Would love some feedback on this. I haven't enough hair to justify a banana conditioner trial.
