Car Stolen - Loss of No Claims etc

I recently came back from my honeymoon to find my house had been broken into and leased car stolen. The claim has gone though and the leasing company has got their money.

However since looking around I seem to be paying 100% the cost of what my insurance used to be as I now need to declare I have no No Claims Bonus and have had a claim. The annoying thing about this is its not my fault yet I am penalised for it! Anyway, is there anything I can do to get my premiums down? Paying £800 for a 1.6 Audi A3 is damn annoying...

The NCD will have rolled back 2 years so if you have nil NCD at present, this probably means you were enjoying 40% discount before. This would tie in with what you are seeing as a 100% increase. Possibly a small claims loading added to the loss of the 40% discount.

Only thing you can really do is shop around each renewal.
Insurers will normally reduce premium if a car is garaged overnight.

I know it all sounds unfair but from the insurers point of view, it is a no CLAIMS discount, not a no FAULT discount. It's the thieving scum who took your car who are to blame.

I do have a garage but the hassle of putting my car in is a pain. More often than not my wife is home before me so I would need to move her car first. I am also first out in the morning so I would have to move her car again to get mine out.
Would saying I use the garage really make that much difference to my premiums?

Yes it can make the premiums lower. However, you can't just SAY the car is garaged if it isn't. For example, your car is stolen from your drive. Questions will be asked if you have declared that it is garaged.

Yes I understand that. I was wondering though how much cheaper putting the car in a garage will be. Cant be a great deal I wouldn't imagine?
