    Thanks for the message lewki,

Are you using anything to help you? I really wish you luck, keep it up! I have to do it soon and stop delaying. I know smokers get ill more than nonsmokers and thats probably why I always seem to catch colds etc. I gave up in January but only lasted 5 days, I felt really emotional and irritable! I looked at a website called whyquit when I tried and hadn't heard of MSE back then. It has some shocking stories on it from the health point of view though. Hope to see you on the stopsmoking board soon when I have taken the plunge...I'll try in a couple of weeks,

    Hello verbatim,
My husband and daughter are vegetarians so we are eating a lot less meat. I miss takeaways - Indian and chinese! Thanks for the tip.

I expect to see savings soon but my husband had to spend £200 on car (it was rattling not sure of technicalities) also my DD birthday this month. I am not going too overboard with this but I am getting her some driving lessons.

This afternoon Lloyds rang me telling me that they have good news (!) Their mortgage rate has actually gone DOWN. I asked how they had managed this and he said it was because of lending and borrowing to other banks (?) I'm not sure what he was talking about but I agreed to see him again on Friday. I think they must be fed up with me as I can't make a decision about my Mortgage!

Just off to get the tea now...venison with red wine...
    actually jacket potatoes.

You can phone the bank on payday everymonth and get the OD reduced BY £100 or whatever you think you can afford and just keep chipping away at it.

That is what i plan to do Shady, you can increase your overdraft on internet banking but not decrease it.....I wonder why....

I want to see if I have saved anything this month as I havn't been doing this for long.
I have a DD 16 (doing her A levels) and DS 21 (not working but is going for interviews at the mo). It will be easier when he works.

Congrats on reducing your debt by the way

Kate - where do you live? I'm in Manchester and use a great website called Manchesterconfidential.com to get half price meals out - makes a treat affordable! If you post your location I'll try and see if I can find something similar.

Not trying to encourage you to spend on meals out, but I know what it's like - you say no, never and that makes you want it more! It's nice to know you have the option.

I am in the south of England, I have pm'd you the location. I'm not being more precise as I am a bit worried about someone knowing me.
Maybe I am being a bit paranoid!

my bank are now telling me that if I want to reduce or cancel my overdraft I will have to go into the local branch to accomplish this. You may need to check it out Kate??

Good luck to your boy in his search for a job and good luck in your quest with the OD.

Just a word of advice from what i have been doing... i have tried to reduce my OD and use that money then to contribute paying off debts that are of higher interest than than OD. The only trouble with this is that an OD can be recalled at any time without notice so a little risky in todays financial climate but it will reduce what you pay in interest elsewhere, this saves a little money but every little hepls. Of course I also have to fight the temptation to spend that OD cash in the meantime....;)
