Need to hire a hospital type bed, urgent

Hi all you lovely peeps.

I dont know if you know but my mum is in hospital. And she cant come out unless we have certain things in place for her at home. And one of the things is she needsis a bed that raises and lowers. Electric hospital bed basically. Please does anyone know where we could hire one from. Getting really frustrated with it all now. Social services have been no help at all. We have tried. The fact she is unable to walk at all at the moment and can do nothing for herself, they say she does not fit into there criteria for help. If she goes into respite thay will take her benefits from her and she will lose the flat if that happens. She is only going to be like this until she has her next op in june. End of June. I dont know which way to turn. Something else thrown at us. Hope someone can help. Thank you all x x x x x x x x x

    Hello,

Soory to hear about your mum. Not sure if it is any help but have you tried calling these shops who rent out disable/hospital equipment for home use. I used to work in a hotel and there was a local company who we used to hire wheelchairs, komodes (not sure how that its spelt), bed pans and the likes. We never hired a hospital bed but they may be able to do that?

Good luck, I hope you find one

Try the British Red Cross - should be in your local phone book.

What is actually wrong with Mum? I ask this because there are organisations and charities which support different conditions e.g. the Stroke Association, Alzheimer's Society, DiabetesUK, various things like that. Or the Lions. The ward sister on the ward where your Mum is at present should also have a list of contacts.

    Hi

the red cross hire out loads of stuff they usually have a local office that you can call. The other thing is are you in a union can they help? Is there a support group for her condition they might be able to advice and occupational health through the hospital should have some support. Some times there are comunity physio teams, they provide equiptment ask the practice manager at your GPs they are a wealth of info.

Good luck and I wish your Mum well

First, so sorry to hear about your mum. I hope you can get sorted soon so you can get her home.

Have you tried the hospital social worker? They should be more clued up than local authority social workers as the hospital are normally keen to free up beds.

Although having said that, my Dad was forced to stay in hospital for three weeks longer than necessary, simply because the social worker had a back log and couldn't come out to do a home assessment until then. But once the assessment was carried out, the social worker arranged for everything to be provided.

Also (and this may have changed so you would need to check) but when my Mum was ill, she had a month in a nursing home after leaving hospital and before going home. It didn't affect her benefits because it was within the length of time allowed (but we had to pay the fees)

    Good luck!

Smashedbooboo, if you can't find anyone that rents beds in yorkshire, telephone one of the companies that people have mentioned on here and they may just know some company who can help.

Have you tried Occupational Therapy Services- should be available at the hospital. Also maybe the District Nurses at your local Health centre?
