Lemoncurd, my husband thinks I'm mad for pretty much everything, but he just leaves me to it now :) He even apologised to the carrots for having teased me about them when he realised how much nicer they tasted :)

carol_a, do your kids realise that if we don't do things like compost, that the entire country will end up a rubbish bin?

Our local authority subsidises composters if you order through them and do one for £9.95 http://www.getcomposting.com/wm/index2.htm
I want to start doing this even though we won't be doing any gardening just yet - more from a reducing waste point of view. Is this a good type of composter to get and is that a good price for one? Would it be worth/a good idea to get the composter base or aerator too?

Bristol City Council charges £14 plus £3 delivery so I think thats a great price for one. Lidl had one in store recently for about £12.

I know, normally they're very "green". I think it's just the "smelliness" of it all but they are getting more used to it now. We've only been doing it a few weeks. I can honestly say that each week I only put out about one third of a dustbin full of rubbish now.

our council is starting a borough wide compost scheme. we are being given a bucket, with lid thank god, and they will collect it once per week. not sure where i will put it though.
  • We never have much rubbish anyway but each time I put peelings etc in the bin it really makes me cringe thinking about it. Where to put all these bins is a problem though - used to have a normal dustbin that we half filled each week but at this place we have a huge wheely bin which is just annoying, we put it out last night with just 3 carrier bags of rubbish lost at the bottom.
