Wood stain on brickwork

We've taken an old wooden pergola off the the side of our house. The previous owners had not been careful in applying the wood preservative and now we've got dark brown stains on our light brickwork.
Any tips how we can get the bricks back to their original colour (without rebuilding the walls:rolleyes:)?

I've tried wire brushing - made a slight difference and paint stripper - no use at all. A brickie suggested brick acid but that looks to be for cleaning off mortar or salts from damp brickwork rather than getting rid of wood stain.
Any other ideas please?Nice to save.0
