Car insurance claim

A few basic queries as I've not been in this situation before and hopefully won't again!!
I have motor insurance with ibuyeco underwritten by Highway. I've read some bad reviews about ibuyeco but unfortunately only after taking out the policy.
During a motorway journey on Sunday my car caught fire! Yes, I'm OK but my car is a write off - I know the insurance has to confirm this but if you could see the state there's no way it's repairable - it's burnt out!
How long is a reasonable time for the insurance company to check it out and should they be contacting me to let me know what's happening?
I did ring them on Monday to check out a courtesy car and they said they'd have to send an email to check where the car had been taken to (?) I knew where the car was and told them! They said they would get back to me the next day! Of course I'm not surprised that I haven't heard from them. My level of cover was only 3rd party fire and theft so wasn't holding my breath on a courtesy car but they did say I'm probably entitled to one if it was available from the garage.
I have managed to borrow a friends car in the mean time until I sort myself out properly but since my car is totalled I wondered what the procedure is now.
Any advice would be better than what the insurance company is offering at the moment!
Thanks in advance.
Oh, one other thing is their admin charges - £25 every time I change details. I've recently moved so they charged me to change address on policy and now they've charged me to put this other car on policy too! Is this legal?!

what a b@mmer...... its always once you make a claim on insurance then you find that hidden in the small writing is some silly reason for them being as slow as possible to do anything..... you have my sympathy.
unfortunately regarding the extra fees they charge, thats partly why some companies quote so low.....smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

you are only entitled to a car if the garage has one free, as you are only tpft. You need to speak with the garage0

That's fine - but I spoke to my insurance company on Monday and the woman other end she said she 'would get back to me'........!
It's now Friday!!
Not bothered about that now though as I have a loan of a car off a friend. Want to know what they're going to do with the burnt out wreck!!
