laptop upgrade question

You guys are always coming up trumps for me with my q's, so hoping you can help me out again!! My dad has just bought a PB laptop which is 256 and he wants to upgrade to 512 (or whatever) - where is the best place to get an upgrade from, and is it simple to do on a laptop, and are all upgrade whatever they are's compatible with all makes? Also, he set up on MSN and it is showing as email address not verified, keep telling him to verify it but he has lost the email telling him how to do it and its ages since I had to do it so I cant remember. TIA for your help.

  • Upgrades are often different dependant on machine - check the manula to see what you need.
    To infinity and beyond!
  • I suggest you go through the proper channels to get this done, because you will void any warranty that you have on your laptop if you open it

Providing the laptop can take the extra ram ie. it has 1 spare socket for another 256mb ram stick(approx £50) or else you'll have to get a 512mb stick of ram (approx £80).

Usually theres a little trapdoor on the underside of the laptop, just undo the screw and the ram slot is inside , lsip in the new ram, re-boot and everything should work.

But, as suggested above, check the manual for confirmation

  • If you enter your laptop make and model at crucial.com in the memory advisor tool it will tell you what you need :j
  • thanks, I will run that on dads pc when I go over there tomorrow, I just tried it on mine and was impressed with the site.
