Wireless network/b-band/firewall suggestions

Can anyone recommend a wireless router with broadband and a firewall, and just as importantly any bargains out there at the moment

I know a reasonable amount about computers (building and using them) but little about wireless. Anyway, thanks in advance!

When you say "with broadband", do you mean a router with inbuilt modem, or do you just want a router?

If it's the former, the Netgear DG834G or DG834GT is a good router/modem. If you look on the Grab It Now forum, and at the end of this thread, it details how to get the router and network card for about £50-60 from Amazon, which is an absolute bargain.

Or if you just want a router (no inbuilt modem) the KCorp KLG-575 is probably one of the best units to go for. It's about £40-45 and was the recent Labs winner in a wireless group test by PC Pro. I've currently got one, and it's very impressive.

  • I have bought and setup a couple of Corega BAR AWLA 54G all in one router/adsl modem/firewall with VPN support. They have been great. The last one I bought was for £43 plus £6.50 delivery on ebay though the one I can see there at the moment is £85 so worth looking around !
    To infinity and beyond!
  • First we need to know what ISP you are on and whether you are on ADSL or Cable!

Great, but I am having problems finding that code and a quick google reveals lots of people having problems with that router?

I've setup a couple, and found them to be very good. I'm sure you'll get a load of people on here recommending them.

I'm sure in most cases, it'll be people not setting their wireless up correctly, or having something interfere with it. I've been there before, more recently with my KCorp (which now runs flawlessly). Up to you, I think it'd be quite a solid router though.

If you hang around AdslGuide.org.uk are reviewing it.

  • Excellent, cheers. The info was for a friend and I think he has gone to pickup a Belkin router. I will need one soon and I will look into the netgear some more
