Does anyone recommend a particular model for use as a bridge ( I think that's the right term :))?

I'm looking to connect a Slingbox via ethernet, to a router acting as a bridge. The bridge connects to my main router wirelessly. Tried with one of my existing routers but it doesn't support this function :/

i think you mean wireless bridge. in which case a la fonera would be best, although you need to spend a while re-flashing and configuring the firmware. it's a tiny little thing (palm of hand) made by www.fon.com, only one ethernet port but, once it has dd-wrt firmware on, can act as a regular wireless client and can connect to any 802.11b/g wireless signal with wep/wpa/wpa2. if you're up for it, let me know and i'll refer you for one for about £7.50 so long as they've not sold out by now.

    >> there are 3 routhers. which one is the best?

none, they're all £10 (£19) now :( but, I would have said the thomson due to voip ports. a lot of people don't like the speedtouch range as they have overheating issues, don't sync as fast as other devices, restart a lot etc. personally, because i only have a low sync speed anyway (6 Mbps on ADSL2+) and the way I use mine I have at least half the services dissabled (inc. wireless) and this pretty much solves the overheating and restart issues; my home hub has been up... oh geez, 0 days... ok well, it *had* been up around 40 days without problem. maybe the warm weather caused a restart... oh well i need to swap it out for my 780wl anyway :p which i'm hoping will differ purely due to stats being recorded for pstn calls, although if not it's pretty much identicle to the homehub/7g other than the 4x ethernet and 2x voip ports (vs 2x / 1x on the HH).

so yeah, search ebay for "O2 router", 02 router, o2 modem, etc, *not* 780wl. the early o2 routers were 780wl's and you can tell this from pics, and they go for about £10 - £15 when they don't include 780wl in the title. should they do this, they fetch around £25-£30 which ain't really worth it.

and as I said, try pick up a homehub v1.0 (square corners), you'll likely find one being sold nearby to collect, so should get it for around £10 that way. note that unless you use O2 or Be* as an ISP, it's only use is either:
    a) as a sip ata, connecting it to another modem/router and using it purely to convert an analogue phone to voip useage. hub phone should work too but the one I got with mine never worked so never go to see if it really works fine with other voip providers.
    b) as everything *but* a sip device, flashing it with the thomson 7G firmware and losing all voip functionality (bug in the 7G fw when run on HH) but keeping it as a modem / router / wifi device.
    c) if you're on O2, Be* or any ISP using ETHoA or IPoA (in the UK, only O2 or Be do and to be honest, if you have a BT line then you're mad not to be on O2's service anyway) then you're in luck. you can configure the original BT firmware to bridge the signal, connect to the internet with a 2nd router, and route internet data back to the HH retaining voip functionality. Yes, you lose both of the HH's ethernet ports, and 2 from your other router, but it's a dirt cheap way to get an ADSL2+ modem, sip ata, wifi router (if you don't have one), extra wireless phone (if the hubphone still works), and NAS (if you have a large usb stick that will connect to the HH's USB port).

This offer from digidave is back on again.

    Free Speedtouch 716, 2wire 1701HG or Netopia 3347W.
    Same link : http://www.digidave.co.uk/jshop/section.php?xSec=30

I finally received the '716 I ordered last time - took a while, apparently because the apostrophee in my surname upset their systems. Amazing how often that happens... anyway, it arrived loose, with just power supply and ethernet cable. Paint transfer on the front also makes me think it's not quite as well refurbished as they might try to indicate, merely second hand as Inactive suggested. However, it works, and I was able to use it to replace two boxes in the cupboard (router+ seperate voip adapter) so making me a bit more space.
