I wonder if anyone can help with this problem.
I have started to get(again*) an error message on my desktop( running XP)
Microsoft Office is a genuine version and is used on 2 laptops without problem.
* This problem happened a year or so ago and then disappeared.
Any ideas please how I can rectify?

Clicking OK - which is the only action possible - and MS Word terminates and the document being typed is lost i.e. no temporary file is saved as it would if there was a power cut. Saved files revert to the last saved state.Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

This application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for further information.

espresso,
Thanks a lot.
It seems pretty certain that the problem is connected to Adobe.
The links you provided all refer to Adobe Acrobat 7.0 and I have Adobe Reader 8.1.2.
Anyway I have reloaded that and will see if that solves the issue.
I have had a Word document running for 10 mins and 'touch wood' it hasn't crashed!
So your info has been a great help.0 -
Well 'touching wood' didn't help and MS Word crashed again.
I have now removed Adobe completely and for several hours MS Word has behaved perfectly.
Microsoft have gone to the trouble of issuing a technical paper on this 'well known' problem, and Adobe have acknowledged the conflict exists between Adobe and several versions on MS Word(mine is 2003).
As Adobe and MS Word must be on millions of PCs it is surprising that my problem isn't apparently happening to a load more people.
I am going to install Adobe again tomorrow and see if the problem comes back.0 -

Foxit reader here comes highly recommended as an alternative to Adobe reader. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
