I assume the £5 was charged because either you agreed to pay the fee on the cash machine or you used a credit card and were charged by the cc issuer?

My partner also says its particularly imp to check your cash withdrawals - as they are hard to stand over when you've thrown your slip away

Whats your views? (personally I always get cashback at the supermarket where poss):D

Most cash machines that charge for withdrawals only charge about £1.50-£1.80

If it was a credit card you would also get a charge from them. £5 sounds a lot for £30. I'd try and find out why it's so high.

Why did you draw the money out then?

If you chose to use a machine that makes a charge (or a credit card cash withdrawal with a min cash handling charge as its not clear what the charge is for from your post) then you made the choice.

If it is a cashpoint that that charges then the charge is disclosed on the machine before you get the money out. If its a credit card then again a min handling charge exists with many issuers and they publish that information should you choose to read it. Credit cards arent really meant for £30 cashpoint withdrawals.

Thankfully where I am there are 6 bank cash machines within easy walking distance so no need to use one of those chargable ATMs.

    £5.00 for a £30.00 withdraw?!
I think that somewhere there has been a misake, I would contact your bank.
However first of all, I would point out that I have used cashpoints that have advised me of a huge fee for a withdraw, if the cashpoint is not a LINK one as it is to my understanding the non-LINK cashpoints are private owned - the type that you find in some shops, petrol stations etc and stand on there own.
The charge should however been stated to you before you take the money out; if it was not I would contact the cashpoint owner.

    Best of luck

  • £5?!? Had you gone over your overdraft limit?
Card machines in pubs and places tell you that they charge, its normally £1.60 but you have to press a button to say you agree with the charge, if they didn't warn you about the charge then this sees wrong to me. x

I trust them but always use a compatible machine that wont charge.

If i was stuck and only able to use a "charging" ATM then i'd be very careful.
