Sorry to hijack this thread but I'm 17 and I'm thinking I'd quite like having this done. Can someone tell me where to start? GP? Dentist?
    Thanks.

Pukka, if this is spotted early enough in a baby (usually when someone has a problem with breastfeeding) it is actually a really quick and simple procedure to perform... It gets more complicated with age...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...

Completely agree, my son has his done at two weeks old, he had it cut and then had his bottle put straight in his mouth, he didnt even cry. I was worried about him having it done but it was good that it was done. I dont think many hospitals still do it while they are babies but I may be wrong.

Our baby had it done on day one as he was having trouble feeding. Mine apparently snapped when I fell over in the garden as a child (!!)

My daughter had this when she was 13 months.

I also had private insurance but was told not to bother with it as many paediatric consultants don't actually do much private work. BUPA certainly do cover children though as my children had had treatment in BUPA hospitals before.

I second ringing your consultant's secretary and asking for advice on what your best option would be in terms of speeding things up.

I'm shocked that you've been told 6 months. It's a fairly simple operation (my daughter had a GA but she was out the same day) and sounds like it's reasonably urgent given the circumstances.

    Yes they do.
Usually within a simple daytime appointment if the child is 6 weeks or under. If it's a significant tongue tie then it can cause different types of problems as the child gets older.

Depends on the consultant paediatrician though... Quite a few of them don't actually believe in tongue tie... There have been times when breastfeeding women have had to fight to be reffered to someone out of area in order to have a tongue tie seperated...
