Van hire excess insurance for camping
Hi Everyone,
I don't have a car, but several times during the year, we hire one to go camping. Normally Enterprise, in a Vectra or something. We always pay the horrid excess reduction at £12 a day, as I don't have the £500 to pay.
Well after reading on the site about excess reduction insurance, I wondered if you can use it for a van.
My two children are now older and want to take their bicycles camping. So we have found a company called Ready Rent a Van. It is the ideal vehicle a Ford Transit, it has six seats. 3 in the front and 3 behind that. Then the rest is just space. Which means there is room for the four of us and camping gear and bicycles in the back.
I was trying to find excess reduction insurance. Do they do it for vans? I have looked at the websites and although they cover the person, they do all talk about cars.
Thank you.

slightly OT, but alot of campsites dont allow people with vans. dont know the reasoning behind it, but its just something to watch out for

I suspect the reason is that most vans are either occupied by gypsies or gangs of noisy teenagers and camp sites (and society generally) is less tolerant than when I was a noisy teenager camping in a van.
Back then they just used to direct us to the farthest corner of the site and let us get on with whatever mischief we were up to. (we were always careful not to frighten the horses)0 -
Hi
Thanks for your replies. The camp we are going to will not have a problem with the van.
Does anyone know if I can get the excess reduction insurance for a van? I have emailed one of the companies now. But if they say no, where do I go?
I don't want our holiday spoilt because we come back and have to pay £500 excess on the van.

I am sorry to say we do not cover transit vans even when they do have
some seating. This was a decision of the insurance underwriters and we
have requested a change but they have not agreed to our needs. You will
need to take the car rentals own excess at the counter if you want to be
insured.

Why not hire a proper camper van? You can usually carry bikes either inside or on a rack, most have properly belted seating for at least four, and it makes for a great holiday imho.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0
