I have a HP Deskjet D2360. It does reasonable photos although I must admit I don't use it much for that.
Whatever you buy, I'd steer clear of Lexmark as they are cheap but their cartridges are very expensive, although you might be able to have them re-filled.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
HP, Canon and Epsom all make 7 or 8 ink photo printers. I like HP, mainly becasue of their black and white prints, but you will find advocates for all three if you hang around for long enough. Buy branded ink if you want guarantees of photostability - import it from one of the Channel Islands (mymemory, 7dayshop, mx2, pricestorm, play, there's loads of places to buy from) and it isn't too expensive. Use the best paper you can lay your hands on - it really does make a difference.
Don't get too hung up on having separate ink cartridges for each colour. Yes, you only need to replace them when each colour runs out rather than when the first of three colours runs out, but everytime one does run out you waste at least one sheet of expensive paper (more if you've set it to print a load of photos and wandered off to make a cup of tea) and precious time. Like so many things in life, swings and roundabouts apply.
If you have the desk space, have two printers. Use a cheap one with cheap and nasty ink and photocopier paper for printing out online crosswords from the internet and e-mails and the like and leave your good photo printer with its expensive ink free of such nonsense.0 -
First thing to check is the cost of the Inks.
Some companies have cheap printers but expensive Inks.Laters

Get your photo's done by tescos when you next go shopping. Much cheaper, no printer to purchase, no inks or papers to buy and from 7p0

Or ASDA.
Cheaper than any printer and the ink does not dry up.0 -
Getting photos printed at the supermarket means that you are limited to their standard range of sizes and aspect ratios, only one photo per sheet, no borders, no annotation, no experimenting as you get to grips with Photoshop or Gimp, no proofs and no danger of spotting something in the print that needs touching up and being able do it straight away.
I love my photo printer.0
