Hello I have received a letter from a debt colection agency telling me that I have a debt from "2001" and that if I do not pay it then they will take court proceedings; there is nothing on my credit information. all my debts have been satisfied and they are refusing to give me any paper work regarding this debt, can anyone advise me on what to do?
thanks

Firstly, don't panic!
personally i'd suggest sending them the "i do not acknowledge any debt to your company" letter, fermi, ras or rog will be along with more help tho, they know EVERYTHING (it really does seem that way) and i'm certain they'll be able to helpNonny mouse and Proud!!
Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience!!

i received similar mail last week about a debt for £1770 yet my credit file shows nothing. the debt was supposed to be from 2002. i registered yesterday as my initial reaction was panic. everyone in this forum has been very helpful and from my understanding firstly do not acknowledge the debt is yours, never sign your name on correspondence and dont hand write it ( dont ask me why its just what iv been told) and do write to them stating that for an admin fee to cover their costs they have to provide details under data protection act of what they hold on you. as the debt is over 6 years old you may be able to prove it is now statute barred as long as no payments have been made either.waddy - from this:eek: to this :j (hopefully????)0

If there have been no payments made towards the debt for 6 years (5 in Scotland) and you have not acknowledged the debt in writing then the debt is statute barred and not enforcable if you notify the DCA of this fact.
This thread should help - there are template letters too.
