Putting those old LP's and Tapes onto CD

bought a bit off software off Play.com after a friend recommened it £17.99 (including audio lead to connect to PC) but worth every penny !!

I've got 25 year old tapes from which it has now removed tape hiss, re boosted the volume and stereo seperation etc...sounds like new :)
Does the same for LPs....well impressed

this new version is £29.99 but the version I have is the "2005 Deluxe"

http://site.magix.net/index.php?23000

Record, restore and burn: MAGIX audio cleaning lab 10 deLuxe is the perfect tool for restoring sound on the PC. Automatically remove crackling, hisses and humming from vinyl albums, cassettes and MP3s, optimize, and burn on CD or DVD.

NEW! Burn 7 audio CDs in CD quality
onto one DVD
NEW! Surround transitions
NEW! Analog sound simulation
NEW! DVD audio
NEW! Background noise eraser
NEW! DeNoiser 2.0 and DeHisser 2.0

the standard one comes without cables and only has the ability to encode a limited number of mp3s

If you want to put tapes etc on Cd it's great, but for mp3s you either have to get the delux version, or get the standard version and be aware that you have to pay them extra to take the restrictions off.

I'm interested in doing something like this.

Have you guys also heard of the program Audacity? I'd vaguely heard of it before, and someone has mentioned it today on the thread about free software.

    Audacity is great.

I use it for recording voice.

It has some corrections it can apply to music but nothing close to magix with all it's adjustments and wizards -

e.g. You can click a menu item and enhance the sound of a compressed mp3

I have great applying the various effects - e.g. to find out what my favourite song would sound like in a church. :D

I don't usually recommend buying software but I haven't seen freeware out there that comes even slightly close
