Quote of £1200 for interior decoration

Hi,

I've just had a quote of £1200 from these guys http://www.craneandblack.co.uk/ for a painter and decorator to decorate my front room, dinning room, and hallway. I am suppling all materials.

I was wondering if this was a good price, and if anybody in the Croydon area had used these guys before.

Could you give more details?, when you say hallway, do you mean, hall stairs and landing/

Is it just painting, or is there stripping involved, or perhaps paperhanging, ie Hall, how many doors, spindles (if any), the condition of the woodwork, and walls, is this ceilings being painted, how many coats etc.

Try and give a bit more info,I am a P&D as well as a couple of others on here, and we might be able to give you a better idea if the price is right .

I, and I am not a painter and decorater, think that doesn't sound too bad - although as the poster above states, it does depend on the size of hallway etc etc

I have just had a quote for the painting of a spare room and kitchen, walls and ceiling, some minor filling of cracks, all woodwork painted, including 6 panel doors.

The quote also included removing skirting in the spare room and replacing with plain wood, replacing bath panel with wooden and tiled panel and boxing in of pipes (also tiled on top)

The quote including all materials was £1200.
I live in Hertfordshire.

Would others who are in the buisness consider this to be a good quote?

The rooms are bigger than a single, but not as big as a double - if that helps

The Details:
The hallway doesn't have any stairs (aprox 10x10 foot)
The skirts and dado rails (all rooms) are being stripped and painted as they have a lot of paint on them already.
No papering as the walls are in good shape.
All trim caulked.
4 paneled doors stripped and painted.
All ceilings being painted.
Front room (aprox 15x17 foot) and dining room(aprox 15 x 13 foot).
Paint being used is Farrow and Ball - don't know if this makes a difference.
Not sure how many coats.

I went through ratedpeople.com to get quotes for work I am getting done. I have more rooms to do than you so going by your quote I would say it is a tad high. I have finally settled on a company based in East Croydon so I know the area and would advice you to get some more quotes before committing.

Sorry confused here, who is buying the paint, you or them? The make shouldnt make much difference if they are quoting labour only. F&B paint is excellent quality, possibly the best, but very expensive.
based on labour only, it seems a bit dear to me, but you are in Croydon so I could be wrong on that.

Woodyrocks, I'll definatly get more quotes, just wondering what the general (non-bias) opinion was.

ukwoody, I'd bought the paint already, so I'm supplying all materials. Don't know much about the P&D business - just thought that different paints might be more difficult to work with and hence more expensive.
