Stripped pine doors - dried out - how to treat?

Hi,

I have some stripped pine doors which I love but some of them are looking very dried out.

Please can anyone suggest the best way to treat them? I've seen various waxes, varnishes, oils (linseed?) but don't know which is best.

All the doors are internal, except for one which is external facing.

I don't necessarily want to add colour to them, although wouldn't mind a slight light honey coloured look.

Many thanks in advance.

Regards,

i don't think you can beat a natural wax finish -
for the outside you can treat with teak oil , although you may find varnish will give more protection

    Hi NickJ,

    Thanks for your reply.

What sort of finish do you get with wax - does it have a sheen to it or stay matt - or can you get waxes that have either a matt or sheen finish?

Also how easy is wax to apply? I've not used it before, do you just apply with a cloth and rub it into the wood?

    Many thanks.

For our old pine doors and furniture we used Bri-wax (you can get it from most hardware stores).
The method we use is to brush it on with a fairly stiff paintbrush.(or cloth if you prefer)......let it dry and then buff it up either with a cotton cloth or a shoe brush. It'll give it a good sheen and colour. Two coats offers more protection though not for outdoors.

Oh, should have said, work along with the grain of the wood to avoid any smears.
    Hope this helps.

bri wax, and apply it gently with wire wool, then buff with a soft clot/yellow duster.
