I am trying to do some maintenance on a friends computer. I am trying to back up files onto a USB 2.0 Flash Pendrive. The PC runs Win 98 and does not recognise the Pendrive. I've gone to the Pendrive manuacturers website and downloaded the relevant driver. However I am not sure how to install this. Please can anyone help?

Is one of the files called install.exe or setup.exe. It would be one of these if there is.How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Go to control panel and then to system and then look in the device manager, if the USB drive shows in their with a '!' next to it, double click on it and it should bring up a screen with 3 tabs. Click the tab that says driver, then select update driver.
Follow through the options on the screen until it asks for the driver location, Use the browse facility to locate where you extracted the files to and select the *.inf file and click continue (if it doesnt accept the inf file select one of the other inf files until you get the right one). This should install the driver.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. Pen drive is Buffalo ruf-c128m/u2
The url I'm downloading from is http://www.buffalo-technology.com/support/downloads-product.php
Just to let you know what my aim is. My friend has a laptop with all of her project work on etc and has no back ups. I really think she should back up in case it gets stolen/broken etc. She has no CD/DVD burner so I can't burn a CD. She only has a floppy drive and there are loads of files I need to back up.
The only way I can think to do it is to copy them to my pendrive and burn them onto CD on my PC.0 -
Good thinking CIS.......just pointing the driver update to the relevent folder should work also. It should pick what it needs from there. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?
