Depth of american fridge freezers

Ok, so maybe this is a long-shot but I'd really like to find an American fridge-freezer that is not so deep - most of them seem to be about 725cm.

I have seen one Smeg one (FA550X2_SS) which is 603cm but it is pretty darned expensive. I don't suppose anybody has come across any other shallower ones?

Thanks.

Just bought an American fridge freezer. The Sainsbury site has a depth field to the bottom left that can be used as a sort criteria.

I spent a long time looking very hard and I gave up. I used all the search functions on depth, checked them all and if you want something to line up with regular worktops then you are indeed looking at paying something near to £2000 for an american style fridge.

& dont forget to allow space for the filter!

The rear of the fridge may look & measure 'flush', but the cartridge of the filter - assuming you buy one with ice/water supply, is a couple of inches itself, plus the actual water pipe, from the mains.

We've mounted our filter/supply inside the unit next to where the fridge goes.

& the LG in shiny black will actually be unpacked this weekend, if we're lucky!!

This dohnut, with 30 years experince in kitchens, and chippying. Redesigned our kitchen. "Ooooh, lets have one of those American things" said 'Er indoors. So we planned it all out, the fridge would be just inside the door in a perfect sized space.

Unfortunetly, having never had one, nor really examining one before, I didn't realise they were SO much deeper than an ordinary fridge. Half way thru the refit, I had to redisign the damn kitchen layout to accomdate the damn thing!

That'll teach me! (not to measure them but for agreeing to have one! LOL)

Google "Samsung Integral 60" models - they've made them with a bevel on the outside edge of the fridge and freezer doors - so that they can be opened sufficiently widely to get the shelves out - without the doors being proud of the units (well not by much anyway - and as long as you leave a 26mm gap each side). There's a diagram on page 19/20 of the user guide PDF (but they are of course quite pricey compared to other Samsung models):

With a lot of the shallower fridge-freezers you need to check the door opening. The doors are often so thick that they need to open back onto any adjacent units - or, at least, they do if you ever want to get the shelves out. So even with the ones designed for the UK market - the doors will often be proud of the standard 600mm depth.

Some of the more expensive ones will open within their own width ... but I can't, of course, remember which ones! If you look at the installation instructions - the clearance needed for installing against an adjacent wall is interesting. For most of the shallow GE models (607 deep but 678 with the doors) it's about 450mm. For Maytag (597-9 deep but 666-679 with the doors) it's 400mm. Units aren't as restrictive as a continuous solid wall, of course - but it's easier just to leave the doors proud - for most models.

P.S When I say the more expensive ones will open within their own width ... what I meant to say was that you can get the shelves out when they're only open that wide (with the doors at 90 degrees). Liebherr is definitely one of those makes - but their side-by-side fridge-freezer is huge - 121cm wide.

  • OK guys. sorry for re-opening this old thread, but if any one has any advice I'd be grateful. Have'nt finalised my new kitchen layout so nows the time to rule out/in an american f/f. Have tried googleing for cabinet depth, 60' integrated, and even samsung intregrated 60 as mentioned in the previous post, but I cant get any decent results. I've found this model AEG S95500XNM0, but at £2500 its very expensive.
Any one found any suitable cheaper models?
    Thanks for reading :)
